Support people in extreme need

Young. Dynamic. Impactful. Welcome to the Rotary Club of Mumbai SOBO.

My Vision of the Club is to have the hearts and hands connect together.
Hearts represent love and compassion, Hands represent action, support and work. When they both connect together, it fosters a sense of belonging and shared purpose. So I look forward to building this connect in our club. Once this done, nothing is impossible for this club.

Our Goals would be to focus on women and child development projects. A Woman is the backbone of a family and children are tomorrows leaders! Investing in their health and education will go a long way to the well being of our community.

Our Members are the heart and hands of the club. More hearts n more hands will lead to more of everything! Each one of us are a treasure chest of ideas , skillsets and network of friends and relatives. Let us tap this huge opportunity to do magic around us. Each one of us are future leaders.

We look to maintain the continuity from last year for most of the projects. In the last few year’s we have managed to reach out and connect to 33 clubs around the globe in the country by way of Flag exchanges and Sister Clubs agreements. This has helped us get support for our projects. It has exposed us to different cultures and help us to build connections all over. We seek to build on this in coming year. So request Members to take out time on your trip to connect with a Rotary club in your city of travel.

Rotary is present in over 200 countries. We are lucky to have 13.Interact and 3 Rotaract clubs. Their innovative ideas have led to some great work being done by the youth of today. They are the Future leaders for sure. Plan to set up more Interact and Rotaract clubs.

Without funds, nothing can be done! No donation is small. Appeal to all members to be generous in their giving. Communication is the key to trust building, visibility, stronger relationships, timely feedbacks and alignment of expectations. We will ensure full transparency with all our stake holders

In serving others, one loses oneself! Feeling gratitude for what we have and empathy for the needs of others around us leads to lasting happiness. Giving can be done by way of time ,talent and treasure. At times even a smile is enough to cheer up someone’s bad day !

Let us take responsibility and join our hearts and hands together to a better tomorrow around us. Look forward to the support of everyone in 24-25 to make it a truly Vibrant year for all of us

Best wishes,

About

By chance, I walked into the seminar about joining a
Rotary Club in January 2021. Monica’s persuasive talk,
left no doubt in my mind and was happy to be a charter member of our club from February 2021. What a journey, it has been since then! Last 3 years seem like 13 years, with the amount of work done, the friendships formed, new skills learned.

Always considered myself an introvert, so had to get
out of my comfort zone here. Have followed my passion for sports, health and fitness and made it my work. We train the trainers and do corporate programs in wellness.

Reading, travel, photography, music keeps my sanity.
My better half Sarita balances me perfectly. She is a
home chef. My son, Varun is into sports management, Working for a UK firm ,based in Hong Kong. My daughter Meha is a designer at a clothing brand in Sydney. Both kids have found their partners and it has been such a pleasure to welcome Sailesh and Nandini to the family.

Our beagle Bozo, is the the apple of our eye at home. Looking forward to doing more, serving more here at SOBO. Cheers to a great bunch of members.

Child Name: Minara Safikul Aalm
Program: NFE (School on Wheel Bus)
Age: 9
Gender: Female,
Location: Wadi bunder
Minara resides in Wadi Bunder No 12, railway yard of central railways of Indian government. Her father is a mason and mother is a house maid by profession. Minara’s house does not have an access to basic amenities as such electricity and water. She has a responsibility to look after her younger brother post departure of her parents from the house for their work. When Minara was introduced to our NFE- School on wheel bus program that runs on the Mumbai streets for the wearer’s section of the society, she was not able to read and recognize the alphabets even in her regional language and she was kind of reluctant to learn from Hindi medium as it was not her first language, but later she expressed her interest in learning Hindi Language post teachers’ intervention with her.
Initially, her attendance in the class was recorded satisfactory, but later it was observed miserable. Our teacher noticed the same and made a home visit to know the root cause of her irregularity in the classes. It was found that Minara has to perform all the domestic work as such cleaning, clothing and cooking as well along with her younger brother’s care at the age of just 9 years. Our field team made her parents aware on the importance of education and why Minara should avail it. Her parents were worries about her and her brother’s food as her mother was not able to give time to cooking in the morning as she has to rush for the work. In result to Minara had to take all the responsibilities on her shoulder in place of her mother. The large reason was food and cooking. Our team addressed this issue and share the details of our Mid-day meal program on bus, and how Minara can avail the benefits and can continue with her studies as well. Her parents were delighted to know on about the midday-meal intervention and started sending their both children to the classes regular.
The problem of Minara was easily identified and addressed, hence she is vey happy now and receiving quality meal on bus along with the quality educational service. Both her parents Thanks to Mid-day program for resolving their issues and bringing joy to ger Minara and her brother’s life.
