Rotary SOBO has been providing meals to children attending classes at the Door Step School. In addition to boosting nutritional intake for the children, it has the added benefit of acting as an impetus for children to attend school and parents to send children to school. A win-win for all involved indeed!
Rtn. Sunayana Vora donated 200 packets of oreo biscuits and 200 caps to the DSS children. Occasional treats incentivise the children to continue attending school. These really made their day!
A free eye camp and cataract detection camp was organised where families of the children of the OSCAR Foundation- an NGO the club engages with, reside.

School books were distributed to 25 underprivileged children on 13 July at the Guru Nanak School at Sion. The children were residents of the adjoining Dharavi Slums and were in classes 1 -8 at the local school. The distribution began at 3.00 pm and was followed by snacks for the children. Following the distribution, the children introduced themselves and gave a brief description of their career aspirations. This was followed by a brief motivational talk by Rtn. Saurav P who represented the Rotary Club of Mumbai SOBO. He was assisted by volunteers from the SWAN Foundation in the distribution of books and snacks. The event ended at about 5.00 pm. This event was possible because of the generosity of our own Rotarians.
The Rotary Club of Mumbai SOBO has engaged with the Vatsalaya Foundation to supplement nutritional needs for the young inhabitants of the Boys Orphanage at King George Vth Memorial Trust, Senapati Bapat Marg, Lower Parel. Pursuant to this, we propose to conduct a once-a-week distribution of seasonal, nutritious fruit to 50 children at the orphanage for an initial period of 1 year. Background on our Partner Foundation The Vatsalaya Foundation is a non-profit organization that helps children in need of care and protection, aged between 7 to 18 years, who are fleeing from environments of conflict, ill-treatment and despair. For many children drawn to the glitter of city life, their dreams of hope become nightmares. Rejected by society, deprived of their rights, these children are plagued by low self-esteem and suffer from depression and a basic mistrust of adults. Consequently they end up pursuing high risk, self-destructive behaviour and gradually deteriorate towards criminalisation. The Foundation intervenes and works with these children by admitting them into its two shelter homes in Lower Parel (Boys) and Murbad (Girls), where it takes care of their nutrition and education, seeking to empower them through a planned rehabilitation process with the objective of mainstreaming children back into society. The Logistics & Economics A fruit vendor has been identified, who will carry out supplies on an ‘at cost’ basis, in recognition and support of the cause. Fruits will be checked for quality and quantity by members, and sent to the orphanage on Friday or Saturday morning each week.
As Rotarians and responsible citizens we took it upon ourselves to ensure people keen to get vaccinated received slots conveniently. We tied up with Hinduja, Mahim to facilitate this. This drive was conducted with excellent protocols in place with respect to e-gateway for signup’s and payments and SOPs. We expect to utilise these to carry another drive out at scale shortly.
