A blood cell counter machine was requested by Kasturba Hospital. This is critical for the first tests required to be conducted when a patient is admitted to the hospital, and high patient admissions to the hospital during COVID wave made this need more acute. Satisfied of the urgent need for said machine, this was deployed owing to efforts led by Rtn. Swati Shah.
As the Joy of Giving Week ensued, Rotary SOBO and our Rotaract Club organised a donation drive for books, stationary, school bags, snack boxes, shoes, clothes, toys, board games and e-learning resources. Donated items were distributed across NGOs to children in need.
As a part of the Defeat Diabetes campaign of Research Society for Study of Diabetology in India and Rotary International our club ran a blood sugar testing campaign on 29th September at 3 locations- Lodha Park, Cuffe Parade (with the Oscar Foundation) and at Kamathipura. This was a part of the biggest campaign blood sugar testing in India where over a million people were to be tested on the same day.
Mindful of the acute shortage of blood across Mumbai hospitals, we organised another blood donation drive at Chaitanya towers. The logic of conducting the drive across gated comminities was to ensure prospective donors were met at their doorstep, and also had concerns as to COVID assuaged. As was the case with previous drives, this was well recieved and saw residents across the tower signing up to donate blood.
The Rotary Club of Mumbai SOBO organised the Art & Career Summit in order to facilitate engagement of students wishing to pursue a career in the arts with doyens from the field. A stellar lineup of speakers, and well organised program ensured students received unmatched insights. We hope this shall help many students take their first steps into a career in art or design with confidence.
As Rotarians and responsible citizens we took it upon ourselves to ensure people keen to get vaccinated received slots conveniently. We tied up with Hinduja, Mahim to facilitate this. This drive was conducted with excellent protocols in place with respect to e-gateway for signup’s and payments and SOPs. It was also timed to provide a convenient platform for Dose 2 for Rotary SOBO members, friends and family who had taken the Dose 1 at a previous camp organised by us.
Rotary SOBO recognised the imminent need for blood in city hospitals, noting reserves had depleted on account of hesitancy to donate owing to the COVID risk. We decided to tie up with Saint Amand, a world-class facility manager and Hinduja Hospital for organising a series of blood donation camps across large building complexes. Near door-step access gave many the filip to donate and we had a successful drive at Lodha New Cuffe Parade, which will be replicated at other locations over the next few months.
